America The Beautiful Pass

While we don’t invest in many of the passes available (since we mostly don’t plan that far ahead), there is one pass we got that we can’t do without – the America the Beautiful Pass.

What does this pass get you?

The America the Beautiful pass gets you (a non-commercial vehicle with up to four adults) in free to any and all National Parks in the United States. If you’re an adult between the ages of 16-62, it currently costs $80, and needs to be renewed every year. If you’re over the age of 62, an annual pass costs $20, and a lifetime pass costs $80.

And, if you’re permanently disabled like we are, there is the Access pass. This pass is free and is good for life. Of course, you have to prove you’re disabled (via your disability acceptance letter, for instance), and they will send you one in the mail. If you’re in the military or a veteran, they also offer free passes for you too.

Is it worth the money?

With the price of admission to the National Parks (and other Federal Recreational Lands) expensive and going up all the time, even the Annual Pass is worth the money if you’re taking the family (even if it’s just two of you) to more than one National Park in the next 12 months, you may want to think about getting yourself an America the Beautiful Pass.

How do I get one?

Thankfully, it’s super easy to get one. If you don’t want to buy one online at the USGS Store (say, if you’re planning on starting #vanlife soon but haven’t yet), you can always pick one up at a National Park when you go. Super easy, right?
