One of our first purchases for Bessie the Van was a MaxxAir Roof Top Fan. We did get a Fantastic Vent Fan with Bessie, but it turns out it doesn’t actually work. All we can do is crank open the fan top, but the fan itself doesn’t come on.
While we couldn’t afford the MaxxAir Fan with all the bells and whistles, this one was a bit cheaper, and seemed to suit our needs. It was pretty easy to install (although it was a bit scary cutting the hole in the roof of our van), and hooked up easily. The attached wires are short, but we had additional wire to attach so we could run the wire to our fuse box.
When it was hooked up and ready to go, we turned it on (manually – no remotes here), and discovered it only blows air out. While this wasn’t ideal (we wish it was reversible), it works for us. The different fan speeds are nice. The low speed is super quiet (perfect for sleeping), and we can always crank it up if we need more airflow (although the higher speeds get rather noisy).
All in all, not bad for the price, and it really helps with ventilation in the van.
