Bedrock City

Visiting Bedrock City / Raptor Ranch

Where else can you visit a fictional cartoon town (of The Flintstones) and see dinosaurs and birds of prey – all in the same day?

When driving through Williams, Arizona, we knew there was one place we just had to stop and see: Bedrock City, the famous home of The Flintstones, that beloved cartoon classic. Sure, it was about 40 minutes out of our way, but it was just one of those can’t miss sights for us. Besides, it’s not like we were on a time crunch. Aren’t excursions like this exactly why we wanted to slow down and take our time with #vanlife?

Thankfully, Bedrock City (now fully a part of Raptor Ranch) has it’s own overnight parking setup (see our review of Raptor Ranch RV Park) so we could take our time and enjoy all the place had to offer.

Well, to be frank, it’s not something the kids (or adults) could spend an entire day enjoying. It’s fun seeing the different birds, yes. And seeing the old buildings they’ve put together (with some of the interiors) does take you on a bit of a nostalgic trip. But, unfortunately, it is in a bit of a state of disrepair.

It looks like not all previous visitors took care, as some of the glass cases are broken, some stones have been smashed, and many people have scratched their names into the surface of a particular table. But, it’s not just all visitor mayhem though. Time is getting to this place, and many of the items need a fresh coat of paint and some minor repair as well.

Apparently, Raptor Ranch bought Bedrock City after the previous owner passed away, but so far they haven’t done a whole lot of maintenance on the place (that we could see, anyway).

Despite all that, it’s still an interesting place to check out, although $10 per adult does seem a bit pricey for what you get. Easily done in a day trip, Bedrock City / Raptor Ranch is a fun time – for an hour or two. After that, you’ve already seen and done everything.
